Matcha is a form of tea that has a caffeine content similar to a cup of coffee. Usually green powder, this stuff is healthy for immune support and is a healthier alternative to coffee!
There are three main types of matcha:
- Ceremonial Matcha: highest quality, usually enjoyed without any added preservatives or sweeteners, and contains the highest amounts of caffeine, chlorophyll, and i-theanine.
- Daily grade matcha: what it sounds like: DAILY GRADE! As the second highest quality of matcha, it possesses a smaller amount of healthy vitamins and nutrients. It can be sipped, or can be used as the highest form of baking matcha.
- Culinary Matcha: again, what the name sounds like: for culinary work! This matcha is used as a lower form of cooking and baking matcha, and contains the highest amount of catechins. Catechins are natural antioxidants that help damaged cells recover. (I guess it could also mean Kate chins…😆)
Matcha can be enjoyed alone, or with a helping of honey. Alone, it tastes quite bitter. But with additional honey, its flavor gets sweet and slightly tangy, giving it a hometown feel and flavor, and a tea taste. YUM!
