If you had to live the rest of your life using only one utensil, which one would it be?
A fork, right? That’s what many would pick without second thought. But I’m here to promote the humble spoon.
If the fork is a one-trick pony, the spoon is a jack-of-all-trades. Sure, the fork spears better. But that’s basically its entire resume. In a pinch, a spoon can do it fine. But a fork doubling as a spoon…never goes well. Ice cream? Better eat it fast. Stew? Painful. Cereal? You’ve created the world’s worst colander.
Plus, the best comfort foods in human history are delivered by spoon; mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, pudding, and ice cream.
Spoons are criminally underrated.
They have superior ergonomics; a shape that fits naturally into your mouth and acts as a mini bowl for every bite.
The spoon’s versatility goes beyond eating; you can also deseed fruit, scoop ingredients, peel foods, stir drinks, drizzle sauces, baste meats, and scrape the bottom of a jar.
The fork boasts its shiny points; the spoon quietly gets the job done.
Of course, the fork isn’t pointless 😉, but it just can’t match the well-rounded, silver-tongued spoon.
Spoon wins.
