Grapevine, TX — Welcome to the latest edition of “you can’t park there”...On the evening of May 18th, 2026, Jimmy Jack McDaniel and two visitors from Germany—whom he was giving a ride—found themselves stranded near Katie Perry Boat Ramp around 8pm. He had intentionally driven his Cybertruck into Lake Grapevine, in an attempt to test its so-called “Wade Mode” Feature. McDaniel said he had done it before in other lakes; even boasting success in the Atlantic Ocean.
Unbeknownst to him, Wade Mode can only handle 32 inches of water—the height of the wheels—according to Tesla.
McDaniel insisted to reporters that it was the Cybertruck’s fault. He said water may have gotten into the charging port, causing the steering system to shut down.
Thankfully, the three escaped the vehicle via powered windows, and no severe injuries were sustained. The Grapevine Water Rescue Team was able to tow the partially submerged truck safely to land, and it should be operational again.
Police arrested McDaniel, 70, for a number of charges: operating a vehicle in a restricted section of the park, failure to possess a boat license, failure to carry life jackets onboard, and failure to carry a marine fire extinguisher.
